Air Dispersion Modeling (AERMOD)

Modeling for air permits in Michigan and nationwide

CFR Environmental runs AERMOD, EPA's preferred dispersion model, to support permit applications and compliance demonstrations, including state environmental agency requirements.

AERMOD air dispersion modeling services

Permit modeling

We build the model from your emissions, stack, building, terrain, and weather data and document it the way reviewers expect.

Air toxics screening

We model toxic air contaminants against state screening levels and identify what it takes to comply.

Protocols and agency review

We prepare modeling protocols and work with agency modeling staff to keep your permit moving.

Design studies

Before you buy equipment, we model stack heights and control options so you pick the most cost-effective design.

Air dispersion modeling FAQs

When do state agencies require air dispersion modeling?

Many state environmental agencies require modeling for an air permit when a project's emissions could affect ambient air quality, such as toxic air contaminant reviews and larger New Source Review projects. We can tell you early whether your project is likely to need it.

What information do you need to run AERMOD?

Emission rates, stack heights and diameters, exhaust temperatures and velocities, nearby building dimensions, and your facility layout. We combine that with terrain and meteorological data for your location. We will help you from start to finish to collect the correct information and complete an accurate model.

Do you model projects outside Michigan?

Yes. AERMOD is EPA's preferred model nationwide, and we support facilities and projects in nationwide.

Why choose CFR for air modeling

Modeling is only as good as the inputs behind it. Our engineers also prepare emissions calculations and permit applications, so the numbers in your model match the numbers in your permit. You work directly with the people running the model, and we explain results in plain terms so you can make design decisions with confidence.
