Michigan Air Permit Consultants: EGLE Permit Help from Start to Finish
Whether you're installing new equipment, expanding production, or trying to figure out if you need an air permit at all, CFR Environmental helps Michigan facilities navigate EGLE's air permitting process quick and efficiently. From our office in Grand Rapids, we've supported Michigan industry with air quality permitting, emissions reporting, and compliance for more than 20 years.
Do You Need an Air Permit?

Under Michigan's Rule 201, most new or modified equipment that emits air contaminants needs a Permit to Install (PTI) from EGLE's Air Quality Division before installation begins. Many common processes qualify for an exemption under Rules 280–291, but an exemption only holds up if you can document why it applies.
CFR starts every project with an applicability review. We look at your equipment, your emissions, and the applicable state and federal rules, then tell you plainly whether you need a permit, qualify for an exemption, or need something else. If no permit is required, we can prepare documentation to provide so you're prepared if an inspector asks.

Our Michigan Air Permitting Services
Permit to Install (PTI) Applications
We prepare complete PTI applications, including emissions calculations, control technology evaluations, and toxic air contaminant screening under Rule 225. A complete, well-supported application keeps EGLE review moving and avoids rounds of information requests.
Renewable Operating Permits (Title V)
Major sources in Michigan operate under a Renewable Operating Permit (ROP), Michigan's Title V program. We handle initial ROP applications, renewals, and modifications, and we help you understand and track the monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting conditions in your permit.
Permit Exemption Determinations

Not every project needs a permit. We evaluate Rule 201 exemptions and synthetic minor (opt-out) options that can keep your facility out of more burdensome permitting programs.
Air Dispersion Modeling (AERMOD)
When EGLE requires a modeling demonstration for criteria pollutants or toxic air contaminants, our AERMOD specialists build the model, document the results, and work with EGLE's modeling staff to support approval.
